Just a few of the Draken, all of which were taken many years ago and are
scanned.

Pictures of the Tunnan (I believe it was spelled that way) are rare. Perhaps
I can find some.
Anybody got some of the Lansen?

That's right - 'tunnan' means 'the barrel' in Swedish.

I have a couple of great images of the J-29 Tunnan which were posted to this
group by Troy a while back. They are not mine, I got them right here, but if
Troy is too busy to repost them I would be willing to, since folks are asking.
Good images of the Tunnan seem to be rare.

Hi Mitch,
They do not appear to be, at least there is no copyright information
included in the image. Dan just posted both of them in his batch, however, as:

Saab J-29 Tunan 13.jpg
and
Saab J-29 Tunan Austria.jpg

so there is no need for me to duplicate them. Ciao..........

Ugly? UGLY ? ? ?

THAT is an understatement, if I have ever heard of an understatement.

It looks like someone put a cockpit on top of a miss-shaped barrel, then
stuck some chunks of metal out the sides.

I'll bet it flew as well as it looks, or at LEAST as slow as it looks.

It does fit right in with some of the other early ugly jets, though. It
took a few years to figure out what would work, what would work better, and
what would work well.

Beauty, in most cases, seems to follow the progression in those early years,
with most of the modern fighters of today looking pretty sweet, IMHO.

I guess there is room for planes with character, too.

Looking at it this way, that plane has PLENTY character, I would say!

I move we change the name of the NG to alt.binaries.pictures.aviation.saab

Seriously, great pictures so far, and of some aircraft that are generally
less well-known. Lots of thanks to all involved, whether posting pictures
or discussing.
